The 2010 Meredith College Chopin Competition and Festival, a part of Chopin 200, Meredith's celebration of the bicentennial of composer Frederic Chopin's birth, was open to pre-college piano students age
15-19. Repertoire requirements and selections consisted of Chopin's most advanced works. The competition consisted of three
rounds; the semifinals and finals were held on February 25, 2010. There were eight finalists who were judged by distinguished
international concert pianists, Ann Schein and Walter Hautzig, from which were chosen three winners. Top prize of $2000 went
to Mendel Nguyen, Cary, NC; second prize of $1000 went to Fifi Zhang, Centreville, VA: and third prize of $750.00 went to
Xavier Graves, Greensboro, NC. Xavier performed Chopin's Heroic Polonaise op.53 and Etude op.25, no.11.
