Piano Students receive honor ratings at local, district and state competitions...

2004

 

At the GMTA Solo and Ensemble Festival held at UNCG in February:

Elliot Billington received an Excellent Rating

Caitlyn Carmean received a Superior Rating.

Colin Smith received a Superior Rating.

Eric Wang received a Superior Rating.

 

At the North Carolina Music Teachers Association District Contest - Festival held at UNCG in March:

Elliot Billington received a Superior Rating at the Junior B level.

Caitlyn Carmean received an Excellent Rating at the Junior A level.

Eric Wang received a Superior Rating at the Senior A level.

Students receiving Superior Ratings at the Junior B, Senior A, and Senior B levels advance to the State level of competition.

 

At the NCMTA State Contest - Festival held at UNCC in April:

Elliot Billington received an Excellent Rating at the Junior B level.

Eric Wang received a Superior Rating at the Senior A level.

Eric’s accomplishment entitles him to perform at an honors recital at the NCMTA State Convention this fall.

 

Caitlyn Carmean, placed first this year in the instrumental competitions at the Nations Capital Feis and Feile Rince Charlotte Feis, and second at the Augusta Feis. Irish Step Dance competitions, known as a Feis, are usually sponsored by a local Irish Culture Society and include art, poetry, Gaelic speech, and vocal and instrumental competitions .

Eric Wang was chosen through a statewide audition to perform at the William S. Newman Master Class Series which was held at UNC Chapel Hill in October.

 

2005

 

At the GMTA Solo and Ensemble Festival held at UNCG in February:

Monika Chao received a Superior Rating.

Nicole Gellert received a Superior Rating.

Caroline Wall received a Superior Rating.

Eric Wang received a Superior Rating.

Caitlyn Carmean and Eric Wang received trophies, having received Superior Ratings for two consecutive years.

At the NCMTA State Contest - Festival held at UNCC in April:

Jeremy Chang received an Excellent Rating at the Junior B level.

Eric Wang received a Superior Rating at the Senior B level.

Eric’s accomplishment entitles him to perform at an honors recital at the NCMTA State Convention this fall.

 

Eric Wang has been chosen to perform this June at the international event, Focus on Piano Literature, at UNC Greensboro. Eric will be performing on a concert which will showcase some of North Carolina’s finest young pianists.

 

 

2007

Carolina Chao received an Excellent Rating.

Joey Graves received a Superior Rating.

Xavier Graves received a Superior Rating.

Wanlin Xie received a Superior Rating.

Caitlyn Carmean received a trophy, having received a Superior Rating for two consecutive years.

Congratulations to Xavier Graves for being selected as the pianist for the Greensboro Youth Symphony for the 2007 -2008 season.

At the GYC Artistry Awards held at the Carolina Theater in March

Xavier Graves received first place and a $150.00 award in the instrumental division.

Caitlyn Carmean received second place and a $100.00 award in the instrumental division.

2009

 

At the GMTA Solo and Ensemble Festival held at UNCG in March:

Wanlin Xie received  a Superior Plus Rating.

Helen Ni received a Superior Rating.

Jeffrey Li received a trophy, having received a Superior Rating for two consecutive years.

 

At the North Carolina Music Teachers Association District Contest - Festival held at UNCG in March:

Jeffrey Li received a Superior rating at the Junior B level.

Helen Ni received a Superior rating at the Senior A level.

Students receiving Superior Ratings at the Junior B, Senior A, and Senior B levels advance to the State level of competition.

 

At the NCMTA State Contest - Festival held at Queens University of Charlotte in April::

Jeffrey Li received an Excellent rating at the Junior B level.

Helen Ni received a Superior rating at the Senior A level.

Helen's accomplishment entitles her to perform at an honors recital at the NCMTA State Convention this fall.

 

Other accomplishments:

Congratulations to Xavier Graves who was selected as a finalist for the Peter Perret Youth Talent Search 2009. The preliminary phase of this statewide competition consisted of forty four contestants. The finals consisted of eight contestants. Xavier performed Concerto No. 1, Op. 15: Mvt. I [Allegro con brio] by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Congratulations to Xavier Graves who was an honorable mention winner of the 2008-2009 Greensboro Youth Symphony Concerto Competition. As a result of this honor, Xavier has been invited by the Greensboro Symphony Guild to perform at their September Meeting.

Congratulations to the studio's piano duo, Entrada! (Xavier Graves and Eric Wang). Xavier and Eric performed a 30 minute program of piano duet music on March 20 in the McCain Gallery located on the lower level of Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh, NC. This took place as a preliminary event to the North Carolina Symphony's evening concert. The duo was very warmly received.

Xavier and Eric were invited to perform in this forum known as Ovations! as a result of their participation in the 2008 NC Symphony Concerto Competition.
