Piano Students receive honor ratings at local, district, state and regional competitions...

Congratulations to these students for their accomplishments and to their teacher, Carol. It takes dedication on the parts of the students and the student’s parents along with a competent teacher to succeed in competition.

 

2011

 

At the GMTA Solo and Ensemble Festival held at UNCG in March:

Kimberly Brown received a Superior Rating at the Elementary A level.

Lori Brown received a Superior Rating at the Elementary A level.

Evelyn Chang received a Superior Rating at the Elementary A level.

Isabelle Chang received a Superior Rating at the Elementary A level.

Annie Li received a Superior Rating at the Elementary A level.

Angela Liu received a Superior Rating at the Elementary A level.

Maxine Dai received a Superior Rating at the Elementary B level.

Trisha Santanam received a Superior Rating at the Elementary B level.

Sahana Giridharan received a Superior Rating at the Intermediate A level.

Dharani Govindasamy received a Superior Rating at the Intermediate A level.

At the North Carolina Music Teachers Association District Contest - Festival held at UNCG in March:

Jeffrey Li received a Superior Rating at the Senior A level.

Suzanne Zhou received a Superior Rating at the Senior A level.

Helen Ni received a Superior Rating at the Senior B level.

Wanlin Xie received an Excellent Rating at the Senior B level.

Daniel Xu received a Superior Rating at the Senior B level.

Students receiving Superior Ratings at the Junior B, Senior A, and Senior B levels advance to the State level of competition.

 

At the NCMTA State Contest - Festival held at Queens University of Charlotte in March:

Jeffrey Li received an Excellent Rating at the Senior A level.

Suzanne Zhou received a Superior Rating at the Senior A level.

Helen Ni received a Superior Rating at the Senior B level.

Daniel Xu received a Superior Rating at the Senior B level.

Superior ratings entitle these students to perform in honors recitals at the NCMTA State Convention in October at Salem College, Winston-Salem, NC.

 

Other accomplishments:

Xavier Graves received first place and a $100.00 award in the instrumental division at the GYC Artistry Awards held at the Carolina Theater in March

.Congratulations to Xavier Graves who was awarded First Prize and $750.00 in the Senior Division of the 2011 East Carolina University Young Artist Competition for Pre-College Pianists. The competition was held on March 12th, 2011 at the ECU Fletcher School of Music and was open to pianists ages 15-18 who were residents of North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

 

2010

 

At the GMTA Solo and Ensemble Festival held at UNCG in February:

Angela Liu received a Superior Rating at the Elementary A level.

Dharani Govindasamy received a Superior Rating at the Elementary B level.

Sahana Giridharan received a Superior Rating at the Intermediate A level.

Elaine Guo received a Superior Rating at the Intermediate A level.

Daniel Li received a Superior Rating at the Intermediate A level.

Tejas Santanam received a Superior Rating at the Intermediate A level.

Xavier Graves received a Superior Rating at the Advanced level.

Jeffrey Li received a Superior Rating at the Advanced level.

Helen Ni received a Superior Rating at the Advanced level.

Wanlin Xie received a Superior Rating at the Advanced level.

Daniel Xu received a Superior Rating at the Advanced level.

Helen Ni and Wanlin Xie received  trophies, having received  Superior Ratings for two consecutive years.

Congratulations to Carol Fifield for being invited to have a student participate in the 2010 Focus on Piano Literature. This will be the fourth Focus in which Mrs. Fifield has been invited to have students participate. This is an international event, and the concert in which her student, Xavier Graves will participate showcases some of the best piano students and teachers in North Carolina.
 
Congratulations to Sahana Giridharan who received First Class Honors on her Level 3 National Music Certificate Program Practical Examinations held on May 16, 2010 in Cary, NC.
 
 
Congratulations to Xavier Graves who was awarded Alternate at the state level of the Music Teachers National Association Yamaha Senior Piano Performance Competition which was held at UNC Wilmington on October 8, 2010.
 
 
2009

Wanlin Xie received  a Superior Plus Rating.

Helen Ni received a Superior Rating.

Jeffrey Li received a trophy, having received a Superior Rating for two consecutive years.

 

At the North Carolina Music Teachers Association District Contest - Festival held at UNCG in March:

Jeffrey Li received a Superior rating at the Junior B level.

Helen Ni received a Superior rating at the Senior A level.

Students receiving Superior Ratings at the Junior B, Senior A, and Senior B levels advance to the State level of competition.

 

At the NCMTA State Contest - Festival held at Queens University of Charlotte in April:

Jeffrey Li received an Excellent rating at the Junior B level.

Helen Ni received a Superior rating at the Senior A level.

Helen's accomplishment entitles her to perform at an honors recital at the NCMTA State Convention this fall.

Congratulations to 9 year old Daniel Li who received First Class Honors with Distinction on his Level 2 National Music Certificate Program Practical Examinations held on December 5, 2009 in Cary, NC. (This is the highest rating in the grading classification.)

Congratulations to Xavier Graves who was selected as a finalist for the Peter Perret Youth Talent Search 2009. The preliminary phase of this statewide competition consisted of forty four contestants. The finals consisted of eight contestants. Xavier performed Concerto No. 1, Op. 15: Mvt. I [Allegro con brio] by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Congratulations to Xavier Graves who was an honorable mention winner of the 2008-2009 Greensboro Youth Symphony Concerto Competition. As a result of this honor, Xavier has been invited by the Greensboro Symphony Guild to perform at their September Meeting.

Congratulations to Xavier Graves who was awarded Honorable Mention at the state level of the 2009 MTNA-Yamaha Senior Piano Competition

Congratulations to the studio's piano duo, Entrada! (Xavier Graves and Eric Wang). Xavier and Eric performed a 30 minute program of piano duet music on March 20 in the McCain Gallery located on the lower level of Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh, NC. This took place as a preliminary event to the North Carolina Symphony's evening concert. The duo was very warmly received.

Xavier and Eric were invited to perform in this forum known as Ovations! as a result of their participation in the 2008 NC Symphony Concerto Competition.

 

2008

Xavier Graves received a Superior Rating at the Senior A level.

Superior ratings entitle these students to perform at an honors recital at the NCMTA State Convention this fall.

At the North Carolina Music Teachers Association District Contest - Festival held at UNCG in March:

Elliot Billington received a Superior Rating at the Junior B level.

Caitlyn Carmean received an Excellent Rating at the Junior A level.

Eric Wang received a Superior Rating at the Senior A level.

Students receiving Superior Ratings at the Junior B, Senior A, and Senior B levels advance to the State level of competition.

 

At the NCMTA State Contest - Festival held at UNCC in April:

Elliot Billington received an Excellent Rating at the Junior B level.

Eric Wang received a Superior Rating at the Senior A level.

Eric’s accomplishment entitles him to perform at an honors recital at the NCMTA State Convention this fall.

Caitlyn Carmean, placed first this year in the instrumental competitions at the Nations Capital Feis and Feile Rince Charlotte Feis, and second at the Augusta Feis. Irish Step Dance competitions, known as a Feis, are usually sponsored by a local Irish Culture Society and include art, poetry, Gaelic speech, and vocal and instrumental competitions .

Eric Wang was chosen through a statewide audition to perform at the William S. Newman Master Class Series which was held at UNC Chapel Hill in October.
